Meta Data Center Technician Salary 2026 ($71k to $198k)
Meta does not post a job titled data center technician. On September 2, 2026 its careers site listed 261 open data center roles and none used that title. The closest Meta badge role, Data Center Production Operations Engineer, pays $70,990 to $158,995 a year plus bonus and equity.
That is the part almost every Meta salary page gets wrong. Search metacareers.com for “data center technician” and you get eight results, none of them a technician job. Search for “technician” on its own and the only technician titles at Meta are robotics roles in Redmond, Washington, nowhere near a data hall.
Meta hires the engineers, managers and network staff who direct data center work. Contractors hire the technicians who perform it. Meta’s own job postings say so in plain language, and this guide quotes them.

Meta does not employ data center technicians, and its own postings say so
Three lines from three separate Meta job postings, all live on September 2, 2026, settle this question completely.
Facility Support Lead, Rayville, Louisiana: “Oversee a contracted technician workforce responsible for facility maintenance and ensuring safe operations within agreed upon SLAs.”
Data Center Production Operations Engineer, Hillsboro, Oregon: “First point of contact for break fix technicians.”
Network Engineer, OSP Operations and Support, Denver, Colorado: “Provide technical guidance to external vendors and field technicians to direct fiber installation, splicing, testing, and repair activities in accordance with Meta’s OSP standards.”
Read those three together and the structure is obvious. Meta hires the person who directs the work. A contractor hires the person who does it.
This matters for two reasons. The first is practical: if you are searching metacareers.com for a technician job you will not find one, and you are looking in the wrong place. The second is about every salary figure you have read elsewhere. There is no Meta data center technician pay band because there is no Meta data center technician. Any page quoting you a precise number for that title built it out of anonymous submissions for a job Meta does not advertise.

One band covers every city on the posting
The Lead Building Engineer opening lists Kansas City, Missouri plus nine other sites and carries a single United States range of $104,998 to $151,008. Meta is not pricing Prineville against Santa Clara on these roles.
Amazon does the opposite and prices the same technician job differently in every market. If you are weighing a Meta offer against an Amazon offer, cost of living does all the work on the Meta side and none of it on the Amazon side.
The gap from the bottom rung to the top is $127,010
Entry sits at $70,990. The Facility Support Lead tops out at $198,000. Both are campus jobs at the same company, and the distance between them is eight years of experience and a move from fixing things to running the contracts.
That is a wider spread than Google runs on its technician ladder, which stops at $173,000, and it is reached through management rather than through depth on the tools.
There is no L1 to L6 ladder at Meta
Meta does not print IC levels on data center postings. None of the seven roles read for this guide named a level, a rung or a promotion timeline. Any page showing you an IC3, IC4 or IC5 total compensation table for a Meta data center technician is applying Meta’s software engineering ladder to a job that does not sit on it.
What exists instead is four tracks: three Production Operations Engineer bands, a facilities track, a network track and a management track. The postings tell you which one you qualify for by the years of experience they ask for.
Meta fiber technician salary: what the job pays and who really pays it
Start with the part nobody says out loud: a Meta fiber technician is almost never a Meta employee.
Graduates of Meta’s own fiber training program are, in the program’s own words, “placed at a Meta data center and employed by one of Meta’s contractors.” The badge on the gate says Meta. The name on the paycheque is whichever contractor holds the work at that campus.
That is why there is no single Meta fiber technician salary, and why every precise number you find online is somebody’s guess. The employer changes by site, and contractor rates move with the market, the scope of the build and how much overtime the job is running.
What is published, and what is not
Meta and CBRE publish a great deal about the LevelUp Fiber Technician Pathway: four weeks, free, paid, travel and lodging and meals covered, no experience required, a job at the end of it.
Neither company publishes what the job at the end of it pays. Both program pages were read on September 2, 2026 and neither states an hourly wage. Data Centre Dynamics reported the same thing in April 2026, noting that participants are paid an hourly wage “though the amount is unspecified.”

What a fiber technician at a Meta site actually earns
Meta does not publish it. CBRE does not publish it. This page will not invent it. What is published is the government wage for the trade itself, and that is the closest defensible number anybody can give you.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median pay for telecommunications line installers and repairers at $66,200 a year, on May 2025 wage data. That is the occupation a data center fiber technician sits in. Electrical power-line installers, the harder and more dangerous trade in the same family, run a $95,320 median across 131,900 jobs, with 10 percent projected growth from 2025 to 2035.
Put that next to Meta’s own fiber posting and the shape of this job gets clear. Network Engineer, OSP Operations and Support pays $106,995 to $159,000 on a Meta badge and asks for two years of outside plant work. The technician splicing the cable on the same campus sits in a $66,200 occupation. The published gap between directing fiber work at Meta and doing it runs roughly $41,000 to $93,000 a year, and it is crossed with two years of experience rather than a degree.
That is the honest answer to the question this page is asked more than any other. There is no single Meta fiber technician salary because there is no Meta fiber technician. There is a trade with a published national median, a contractor who sets the real rate and does not publish it, and a Meta role two years above it that publishes everything.
The fiber number Meta does publish
The fiber ceiling on a Meta badge is a real posted figure. Network Engineer, OSP Operations and Support in Denver, Colorado pays $106,995 to $159,000 a year plus bonus and equity.
Its minimum qualifications are two years of outside plant work including OTDR testing, fusion splicing and fiber characterization. Two years. That is the whole distance between installing fiber on a Meta site and holding a Meta salary band that starts at six figures.
Read the two side by side and the route is unmistakable. The LevelUp curriculum covers safety, power tools, data center infrastructure and high-tech cabling. The Meta OSP posting asks for OTDR testing, fusion splicing, fiber characterization and route documentation. Four weeks of training plus two years of site work is the gap, and it is a smaller gap than almost any other route into a six-figure data center job.

The competition is the part to plan around
When LevelUp opened, Meta says it took 35,000 applications in the first seven days. The first cohorts were sized for summer 2026 and ran out of Columbus and Indianapolis only.
Treat it like a trade apprenticeship intake rather than a job application. Apply the week a cohort opens, say yes to travel, and apply again if the first one closes before you get through. The application runs through CBRE’s portal, not through metacareers.com.
America’s Workforce Academy is the bigger door
Meta put $115 million behind America’s Workforce Academy in its first year. It covers electrical, mechanical and plumbing as well as fiber, and it comes with what Meta calls a job guarantee: a conditional offer from a contractor partner that turns into work when you finish.
Graduates earn a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) credential, which travels with you to any construction employer in the country, plus an America’s Workforce Certificate. The pilot runs in Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana and Texas, the four states where Meta is building hardest right now.
Neither program makes you a Meta employee, and neither one pretends to. What they do is put a first-year trade credential and a live job on a data center campus in the hands of somebody who had neither four weeks earlier, at no cost. Meta prices this job by seniority rather than by city, and it posts some markets hourly and others as an annual salary. Aurora, Illinois is the entry tier that Hillsboro, Oregon posts as $70,990 to $103,002. Reynoldsburg, Ohio is the six-year tier that Newark, California posts as $111,010 to $158,995. Los Lunas, New Mexico appears in both tables at the same $83,990 to $130,000.
The midpoint column is arithmetic on our part, not an employer figure: it is the middle of the published band, annualized at 2,080 hours where the band is hourly. Two caveats apply to every row. Each employer publishes a new-hire range, which is not the same thing as an offer. And none of them publishes the equity grant that sits on top, so no total compensation comparison is possible from published data alone. No figure in this table came from Glassdoor, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Salary.com, Levels.fyi, PayScale, Comparably or Blind.
Meta’s three rows land at $84,000, $107,000 and $131,000 on the midpoint column, which puts its entry tier eighth of twenty published bands and its senior tier second only to Google’s Data Center Technician IV. That looks like Meta pays near the top of this market. Read the title column before you believe it, because comparing these fairly means admitting they are not selling the same job.
Google sells a technician career. It posts the title, it runs a II through IV ladder, and its entry band of $86,000 beats Meta’s entry band of $70,990 by $15,010 before the 15% bonus target.
Amazon sells volume. It hires more data center technicians than anyone, prices them market by market, and its cheapest server-track band of $27.83 to $48.75 an hour in Canton and Vicksburg, Mississippi is the lowest floor in the table. Its facilities track in Northern Virginia runs to $65.91, about $137,100 a year, which is the highest hourly ceiling anyone publishes. Those two Amazon bands were read on September 6, 2026.
Meta does not sell a technician job at all. It sells the job that supervises one, and it prices that job like an engineering role, with a floor at $70,990 and a facilities management ceiling of $198,000.
So the honest answer to “which company’s data center jobs pay the best” is Google, because Google is the only employer in that table that will put the word technician on your offer letter and pay you six figures for it by the fourth rung. Meta’s numbers look competitive because the job behind them is not a technician job. Its entry band asks for an engineering background and its top band supervises the technicians rather than joining them.

Where Meta is hiring for data center jobs right now
Most Meta salary pages publish a city-by-city pay table. Almost all of them are guessing, because Meta posts one national band per role and the location does not move it.
What is worth publishing instead is where the open jobs actually are. These are the sites named on live Meta data center postings, read September 2, 2026.

Read that table by role, not by city. Newark, California pays more than Hillsboro, Oregon because the Newark posting asks for six years and the Hillsboro one asks for none, not because Newark is expensive.
The practical consequence is the same one that applies at Google: a Meta offer is worth far more in Los Lunas or Rayville than in Newark, since the number on the letter tracks the level and the rent does not. Meta says it has 27 data centers operational or under construction in the United States, so the map keeps growing. How much does a data center technician make at Meta
The short answer is that the job title does not exist, so the question has to be re-asked. Here is each version of it with a real number attached.
If you want a Meta badge doing hands-on server work, the role is Data Center Production Operations Engineer and the entry band is $70,990 to $103,002. The posting asks for no set years of experience and accepts a degree still in progress. That is the genuine entry point, and it is the least-known job in the whole hyperscale market.
With five years behind you, the same title posts at $83,990 to $130,000 and adds 24/7 on call plus travel up to 15%. With six years and deep server hardware experience it posts at $111,010 to $158,995.
If you come off the tools rather than out of IT, the facilities route is Lead Building Engineer at $104,998 to $151,008, asking six years of critical facility operations across mechanical, electrical, HVAC and controls. Trade background counts here in a way it does not on the server side.
If you are a fiber technician on a Meta site today, your employer is a contractor and your rate is not published by anyone. The Meta-badge role two years above you is Network Engineer, OSP at $106,995 to $159,000.
What about total compensation? Meta states “+ bonus + equity + benefits” on every United States posting and publishes neither the bonus target nor the grant. Any exact total compensation figure you read for a Meta data center role is an estimate, including the ones that look precise.

Why data center technician jobs are uncompetitive
Bonus, equity and benefits at Meta data centers
Every Meta data center posting states the same three things on top of base: bonus, equity and benefits. Meta publishes none of the three in figures.
The compensation line on each posting ends with the same disclaimer: “Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.” Read that as an honest warning. The base band is a commitment. Everything above it is not stated.
Shift work is standard on the operations roles and it is written into the postings, not buried. The entry Production Operations Engineer job puts you on call one week a month, after hours, as first point of contact. The senior version adds a 24/7 rotation and travel up to 15%. The OSP network role carries domestic and international travel up to 25%.
One thing worth knowing before you apply: Meta’s headcount was 75,472 as of June 30, 2026, down 1% year over year, while its 2026 capital expenditure guidance sits at $130 to $145 billion. The company is spending far more on buildings than on badges, and the contracted workforce is where that spend lands.
How to find and land Meta data center work
Search metacareers.com, and search by the titles Meta actually uses. “Data center technician” returns nothing useful. The terms that work are Data Center Production Operations Engineer, Lead Building Engineer, Facility Support Lead, Network Engineer and Data Center on its own, which returned 261 openings on September 2, 2026.
Read the pay line before anything else. It sits at the bottom of every United States posting and it tells you the level of the job in one glance, the same way Google’s does. $70,990 is the entry rung. $111,010 means six years. $143,000 means you are applying to run a campus.
For hands-on work on a Meta site, the door is the contractor, not Meta. Apply to LevelUp or America’s Workforce Academy through CBRE, or apply directly to the contractors holding the work at the campus nearest you. Both routes put you in the building. Only one of them pays you to train first.
Watch for staffing-agency postings that describe Meta work without naming Meta. “Client is a leading social media company,” “major hyperscale customer” and “confidential Fortune 100 client” all mean a contract firm is hiring, and those roles pay an hourly rate with no bonus and no equity. That is not a reason to skip them. It is a reason to know what you are signing.

Meta is not the employer to target if you want a technician title. It is the campus to target if you want technician work, because the contractors on a Meta site are hiring hard and Meta is now paying to train people from zero.
The two-year rule is the thing to hold onto. Four weeks of free fiber training puts you on the site. Two years of outside plant work makes you eligible for a Meta badge at $106,995 to $159,000. Almost no other route into six figures in this industry is that short or that cheap.

What changed on September 6, 2026. The nine-operator comparison table replaced a three-operator one, so this page now answers the whole cross-company question in one place. The Amazon rows were re-read live that day and had moved since September 1.
