Who we are

DC Geeks operates dcgeeks.com, a media and career resource site for the data center industry. Our address is dcgeeks.com.

What data we collect

When you subscribe to our newsletter: We collect your email address. That’s it.

When you submit a form (colocation quote requests, contact forms): We collect your name, email address, company name, and whatever you fill in on the form.

Automatically when you visit: Our hosting provider (WordPress.com) and any analytics tools we use collect standard browsing data: your IP address, browser type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs. This is standard for any website.

Cookies: We use cookies for basic site functionality and, if we use analytics, to understand traffic patterns. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not work properly if you do.

How we use your data

  • Email addresses: to send newsletters and, if you submitted a quote request, to follow up with relevant providers
  • Form submissions: to respond to your request and, for colocation inquiries, to match you with appropriate providers
  • Analytics data: to understand what content is useful and how to improve the site

We do not sell your personal data. Ever.

Who we share data with

WordPress.com: Our hosting provider. They store the site and process traffic. Their privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.

Email service provider: If you subscribe, your email is stored with our email platform (Mailchimp or similar). You’ll be told which one at the point of signup.

Colocation providers: If you submit a quote request, your contact details and requirements are shared with relevant data center providers so they can respond to you. That’s the whole point of the form.

We don’t share data with anyone else.

How long we keep your data

Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.

Form submissions: up to 24 months, or until you ask us to delete them.

Analytics data: as per the retention settings of whatever analytics platform we’re using.

Your rights

You can:

  • Ask us what data we have on you
  • Ask us to correct it
  • Ask us to delete it
  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send

To make any of these requests, email us at hello@dcgeeks.com.

If you’re in the EU or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR. If you’re in California, you have rights under CCPA. The requests above cover both.

Children

This site is not directed at anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted in our newsletter.
